The Nancy Ellen Crooks Foundation brought happiness to more than 900 children aged 6 to 14 years at Cheleta Primary School, a co-ed, public, primary school located in Runda, Nairobi. The school is situated in an affluent neighborhood but unfortunately does not benefit from the wealth of the adjacent community. The majority of students come from the neighboring slums, most of who live below poverty line.
The Foundation built a playground for children age 6-10 and purchased play equipment for the older children at Cheleta. This initiative makes a difference in the lives of these children giving them a safe place to play and socialize. It was touching to see the children's reactions as they passed by the playground for the first time on the first day of school. There was clapping, gasping, pointing and squealing with joy. This project was made possible by the support of the American Chamber of Commerce and its members, among other well-wishers
