In a recent interview, Wamkele Mene, Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), underscored the agreement's capacity to reshape Africa’s economic landscape. He highlighted the goal of creating a unified African market, with over 50 nations benefiting from reduced tariffs and enhanced trade cooperation. This initiative aims to significantly boost intra-African trade, spur industrialization, and foster economic growth, particularly through the empowerment of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).
Mene also addressed the critical need to overcome infrastructure gaps and adopt digital solutions to facilitate seamless cross-border trade. Reducing bureaucratic hurdles that have historically hindered the continent’s integration is a priority for AfCFTA. Read the full interview here.
