AmCham Kenya Pushes for AGOA Renewal to Protect 1 Million Jobs & Strengthen U.S.-Africa Trade

AmCham Kenya strongly supports the bipartisan AGOA Renewal and Improvement Act (April 2024), which would extend the program through 2041, providing long-term certainty for investors and workers while advancing mutual economic prosperity and regional stability. 

We advocated for Congressional approval as AGOA currently supports over 1 million jobs across Sub-Saharan Africa, 75% of which are held by women. The renewal of the program is critical not only for African livelihoods but also for American consumers, retail jobs, supply chain resilience, and U.S. geopolitical interests. AmCham Kenya urged a minimum 24-month transition period during renewal negotiations to allow businesses adequate time to adapt their supply chains. Read more
