SUMMARY:U.S. – Kenya Free Trade Agreement
DESCRIPTION:Kenya and the U.S. have entered into negotiations for a Free Trade Agreement (FTA)\, heralding opportunity for Kenyan agricultural goods\, among others\, to enjoy increased access to the U.S. market beyond the AGOA. \n \nThe Ministry of Industrialization\, Trade and Enterprise Development estimates that if Kenya were to raise its agriculture exports (amongst other products) to the U.S. by only 5%\, Kenya could potentially realize gains in excess of KES 1.8 trillion. \n \nFurthermore\, at the launch of the talks\, both countries signed a Co-operation framework to build trade capacity to maximize Kenya’s utilization of trade benefits in the remaining years of AGOA and support the development and competitiveness of the agriculture sector. \n \nJoin us on Thursday August 13\, 2020 at 4 p.m. as we delve into the potential benefits of a Kenya – U.S. Trade Agreement on Kenya’s Agriculture sector and how the sector can position and ready itself to benefit. \n\nDiscussion Areas \n\nWhere does Kenya’s competitive advantage lay and how to we ensure the greatest gains from it?\nWhat lessons we can learn from other trade agreements like the US-Morocco FTA and AGOA – How can we build on these for better outcomes from the FTA?\nHow do we prepare the Agriculture sector for investment\, knowledge\, and technology transfer?\nHow can we ensure high value market entry for Kenyan produce?\n\n \nClick on the link below to register.

SUMMARY:Building Resilience in East African Economies
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic has sent shock waves around the world and disrupted global production and supply chains\, resulting in a trade plunge of unprecedented proportions. \n \nDespite the rapid response by African countries\, well-known structural vulnerabilities such as high dependency on imports and weak production have overexposed African countries to the economic consequences of the pandemic. This has sparred the debate on how the pandemic will affect trade in the region (and Africa) including production and supply chain decisions by companies as well as policy responses by Governments. \n \n“Will we move further on the path towards costly fragmentation or will we react to the ongoing shocks with renewed cooperation?” \n \nJoin us for a stimulating discussion with the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (UNECA) and Trademark East Africa (TMEA) on Thursday August 6\, 2020 at 9 a.m.

SUMMARY:The New Normal in Logistics\, Supply Chain\, Cross Border Trading and Shipping in the East Africa Region
DESCRIPTION:In the current global pandemic all sectors have been affected. This webinar aims to discuss the new normal in logistics\, supply chain\, transportation\, cross border trading and shipping within the East Africa Region. With key stakeholders as panel speakers\, we aim to discuss the reality at present\, challenges and opportunities during these tough times. Some of the key areas of focus will be as follows but not limited to: \n \n\n Current situation of shipping and cross border trading in the various ports in the East African region. \nHow has road transportation been impacted during this pandemic and by the SGR and opening of Naivasha Dry port?\nHow is the warehouse market adapting to the ever changing end user needs pre and during this Covid-19 global pandemic. \nHow are landlocked countries like Rwanda coping from a logistics\, supply chain\, transportation\, cross border trading perspective? \nWith an extra 30days extension in Kenya and continued tight cross border restrictions in Uganda and Rwanda\, how has this affected logistics\, supply chain\, transportation\, cross border trading and shipping within the East Africa Region. \nWhat are the estimated projections/forecasts in Q3 2020?

SUMMARY:The Digital Economy
DESCRIPTION:The Digital Economy is the second of a series of AmCham webinars on Digital Transformation against the backdrop of the sudden metamorphosis the world is witnessing occasioned by COVID-19. It is clear that the crisis is accelerating an already growing trend towards digitization. The transformation and acceleration of the digital economy and associated technologies is being seen as crucial for coping with the negative economic impacts of the pandemic. \n \nIn Kenya\, the digital economy is incredibly robust with some estimates pegging its value at approximately Ksh. 5-6 trillion\, this being an estimate of the proportion of the country’s GDP that is transacted through mobile money. \n \nDifferent types of digital services are growing in significance. Consumers have quickly adopted\, become more discerning and embraced the digital marketplace. E-commerce is on the up and up.
